Name: Coastal Community Celebration
Date: June 8, 2018
Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM EDT
Event Description:

Join the Florida Maritime Museum for their Coastal Community Celebration Event to kick-off World Ocean’s Day on June 7th from 6-8 PM.

During this FREE, family fun evening, FMM invites the community to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Burton Store by participating in activities perfect for children and adults!

Starting at 6 PM, join FMM staff for a brief history of the Historic Burton Store and its importance in Cortez’s maritime history, and its continued legacy as The Folk School at Florida Maritime Museum. After the ribbon-cutting, wander around the museum grounds to find crafts and interactive activities exploring ocean pollution, commercial fishing, sea turtles and more that relate to the important ecosystem that is our ocean.

Continue your journey inside the museum to discover the new exhibit, “The Meaning Behind Maritime,” where community members channeled what maritime means to them on 3x3 canvases. Don’t forget to tell us what maritime means to you during your visit! Click here to learn more about the exhibit.
